COMMUNICATION SATELLITE



               A spacecraft is placed in orbit around the Earth to intercept and retransmit radio signals. The communication satellite may also amplify,sort or route these signals.The communication function is similiar to a ground repeater relays communication satellite signals which connect many locations of both fixed and mobile over a wide area.
             There are two types of communication satellites of practical interest; passive and active. There is no amplification capability in a passive satellite; it simply reflects incident signals. passive communication satellite systems fall into two types: One uses large discrete structures, such as the Echo satellite and the other uses teh west ford approach in which a large volume of space is filled with a large number of tiny passive satellite. The general disadvantage of passive system is the limitation on message capacity resulting from the extremely low level of reradiated energy.
            In all active satellite system, complete electronic equipment for processing and transmission of signal must be carried. Also, means must be provided for directing antennas and maintaining desired satellite orientation and orbital position. with on-board alectronic processing capability, an active satellite can amplify,modify, and retransmit the signals as appropriate. Active satellite can also be considered as two basic types; the store-and-forward design and the massage real-time repeater.In the store and forward type,an Earth atation transmits a message to a satellite passing overhead.The massage is stored in an on board recorder and later played back through the satellite transmitter when the satellite passes over the appropriate Earth receiving station. The only communication satellite now considered for practical  use is real-time repeater.Operation of this instantaneous repeater requires the transmitting and receiving stations to be simultaneously in view of the spacecraft.
          The first satelite with the primary purpose of communication was score, launched on december 18th,1958.It received message from earth station in the United States and recorded them on tape for later transmission  when the satellite was over the receiving station. Echo 1,launced on august 12th,1960, was the first artificial satellite whose primary purpose was to provide real-time relay of message.It was a metallic coated plastic ballon 100ft(30m) in diameter which could only reflect the signal directed toward it. The American telephone and telegraph company developed and build Telstar,which was launced by NASA on july 10th 1962.It was the first active communication satellite with real time repeater. Telstar provided the first live television between the United States,europe,Japan,South America, on July 26th 1963.

THE ASTRONOUTS



             An astronout is a person trained for flight beyond the earth's asmosphere.(in Russia, this spaceman is called Cosmonaut). The United States of Amerika and Russia have been sending astronout and cosmonauts into space several times every year since 1958. They leave the earth in large rocket ships,but when they are outside the atmosphere their small space capsules leave the ships. They go into orbit around the earth or continue their journey to the moon or,by the time some of you read this perhaps, to a planet.
          Both country have space programmes,and the two programmes are about the same. First they want to learn everything that they can about the new science of astronautics. In this sciencethey try to find ways to send man up in ships,to fly the ships in spsce and then to bring them back to the earth.
         In the other parthof the programmes the astronouts experiments and explore space. Through their explorations and experiment we are learning more about space, the other planets in our solar system, the moon, and the sun. But we are learning much more about our planet earth, too. For we can say that the earth itself  is a big space ship, carrying us thousands of miles through space every second.
         In 1959 the United States selected a total of 73 astronauts. The NASA (The National Aeronautics and Space Administration) selected the astonaut candidates. 43 of these astronauts flew in the Gemini, Apollo, Mercury, and skylap programme,the space laboratory programme. When 35  new astronaut  candidates where selected in 1978 for for the space Shuttle programme, 26 of the astronauts chosen earlier still had flight status. Six women were among the 35 new candidates selected for the space shuttle programme.

GALILEO GALILEI


             Galileo galilei was a great who initiated the scientist of the 17th century. He got his early education from aprivate tutor,and in 1581 he went a study medicine at the university of pisa. Because of his lack interest in medicine,he left university without a degree. Then concentrated his study on mathematics and physics. In 1589 he began his career in mathematics. He gave lectures on the subject at the university of pisa,where he was once a student.
           In 1592 the university of prague,Poland,invited Galileo to be a lecturer. He accepted the offer and gave lecture at the university for eighteen year. Here Galileo became interested in the study of star. At the time,most people still held a belief about heavenly bodies. As stated by ptolemy,a 2nd century Greek scientist, that "The earth was the centre of the universe, and that sun,the star,and all the other bodies in the sky moved around the earth". However.about thirty year before galileo was born,Copernicus, a polish scientist held a different view. He was the first scientist who get the idea.Tycho Brahe ,a Danish,who agreed to the idea that star and planets moved around the sun,but he believed  that the sun moved around the earth.
         Galileo's first know activity in Astronomy occured in 1604-1605, when a supernova aroused wide interest and speculation. In 1609 he completed his 9-power telescope, and in 1610 he made another one of 30-power. with the telescop he discovered that the moon was a sphere like our own earth,with mountains and valley. He also discovered many new stars and four of jupiter satellite.Galileo published these discoveries in his book Sidereus Nuncius (Starry Messenger,1610). The discoveries revealed the fact that the earth was not the centre of the heavenly bodies movement.

How To Make a Wayang Kulit




          Take athin piece of  buffalo skin which is large enough for the puppet.Clean the skin.Draw the puppeton the sin. Cut around your drawing with a sharp knife. Cut holes in the puppet where the light should go through. Take four small pieces of buffalo skin which are large enough for the upper arms and for the lower arms and hands.Clean the skin.Draw the arms and hands and cut around them.
        Paint all of the parts of the puppet.Take a long piece of buffalo horn,and cut a slitin it down the middle.Do not slit the big part of the horn.Put the horn into some very hot water until it become soft.Then dry it,and put the puppet in the slit in the horn. Bend the horn so that it goes along the middle of the body to the head. Fasten the horn to the puppet with string.
      Then fasten the upper arms to the body with string. Fasten the lower arms to the upper arms with string. Fasten a long piece of buffalo horn to each hand with string.

Visiting Museum

          Yesterday we went to a museum.It was a nice sunny say we arrived there about ten. We bought ticket for five persons. Before entering the museum,at the gate we saw abig and tall stone statue in the middle of a beautiful large round green park.
         In the museum we could find and old golden crown and many kinds of traditional weapon and jewelleries . In the next room there was a set of beautiful wooden carving jepara furniture, a gift from kartini's a father.At the back part of the museum there was a gallery with a tropical architecture.In this gallery we could see an antique bicycle,handicrafts,paintings,and old javanese and sundanese literature,an original ivory tusk,a big bamboo flute, and many other things.

BALINESE PEOPLE



              Bali's total population of three million includes majority of hindu people and and the minority of Bali Aga people. The latter claim to be the indigeneous inhabitants of Bali. Their minority Status is the result of the immigration of javanese since the 10th century. Today, small communities of bali Aga can be found mainly in the eastern part of the island.
           Balinese society is stratified in two ways. The first -wangsa-is based on descent, in which each individual is born either into the nobility or the sudras (also know as jaba,which literally means,the outsider of the court). Whereas, the nobility consist of three castes,namely the priests (brahmanas), tehe ruling nobles(satriyas) and the warrior (wesyas).the majority of the population belong to the sudras. The second social "indicator" is based on one's place of residence. The banjar system forms a particular neigbourhood within the village. it is a male -dominating system and every Balinese male is required to belong to a banjar, women are excluded from membership. within each banjar, a member is elected head. The enjoy some minor privileges such as additional rice during festivals. In effect,the banjar functions like a cooperative, with common fund and even communal ownership of ricefields.

THE HISTORY OF TEA

          Tea is easily the most popular drink in Britain today. Every year the British drink over 14 million litres of it,which is about four cups a day for every man,women and child in the country. Today the biggest tea-exporting countries in the world are india and srilangka and more than half the tea they export is drunk in britain. The British were not the first nation to drink tea. However,the Chinese were drinkingtea or as they called it tcha or tay (depending on which part of china they came from),for at least four thousand year before the first shipment of tea arrived in london in the late 1630s. It was supposed to have been drunk first by the Chinese emperor Shen Nung In 2737 BC. The Emporor was on journey and was resting under a bush, boiling some drinking water. The bush jush happened to be what botanists call a Cameillia Sinest or tea bush and some of the leaves accidentally fell into the pot of boiling water. The emperor liked what he drank and tea born. The british still use the slang expression char for tea,which is pronounced the same as the Cantonese word tcha.
        The British were not the first in europe to start drinking tea either. The Portugues, who where the first europeans to reach China by sea in 1513, no-ticed that the Chinese drank lots of strange smelling, hot,brown liquid for their health. The Chinese at first refused to sell any tcha or tay to the portugues,but eventually the portuguese were allowed to set up a trading station on a remote Chinese peninsular called Macao, Which enabled them to start shipping tea and other Chinese goods to Portugal.
       The first Englishman to arrive on tehe scene was Captain Weddell,who sailed into Macao harbour in 1637 wanting to do business. we have was not mada welcome  by to portugues or the Chinese and a battle started. The british had the more powerful guns. however ,and in the end, Captain Weddell was given permission to do some trading and set sail for london with a quantity of goods, including what someone on the ship described as a certain drink called char which is onlywater wiht kind of herb boiled in it.

COMPUTER



        A computer is,in a simple sense,a counting machine because it can add, substract, multiply and divide.  It is like our brains except that a computer can work much faster and the problems it solves depend on the information given to it by man. It is sometimes called a memory machine since it also keeps the information and provides it when it is needed.
       Computer were in fact invented a long time ago. Chinese or japanese merchants have been using a tool to add which is called an 'abacus' or 'cipoa'. These people can add figures by moving the wooden balls of the abacus with their fingers. Another examples of a simple computer is the counting machine found in stores, banks and big offices.
      Computer are now used in banks.factories and other industries. More and more of them will be produced to work for big trading companies and industrial businesses. They are being used among other thing to take care of the complex figure,to help correct assignment or examination papers or to send up satelites and rocket and land them on the moon and other place.
     Computer do many jobs which cannot be done by human beings but they will never be able to raplace us since our brains are much more complex computer. We have ideas and the ability to invent new thing,where as computes can only function because of the informations we give them. So it's we who determine the use of  computers. We control them, they cannot control us.

TELEVISION



           Television is the most important source of entertainment for great number of people all over the earth.  Television is today a part of today of daily life .It is not only a source of entertainment, but it is also a major source of news and information, as well as a valuable tool for science,education and industry. What makes television even more interesting is that action is accompanied by sound so that we can hear as wellas see. Today we can stay at home and enjoy entertainment that once could be seen only in cinemas,theatres and sport arenas.Television enable to "meet" important people,such as the president,minister of cabinet, or important guest,through speeches and interviews. It can bring important scenes to receivers which are located anywhere within the range of a broadcasting station, or to more distant place through relay station. Television has a great influence on our ideas about whwt is righ and wrong, about the way  we should behave, and about life in general. Sometime the value and life style that we get from television are in conflict with those that are taught at home,school,or other. Critics of television point out that crime and western  programs often appeal to ataste for violence,while many game shows appeal to greed. Many critics also believe that television should be used for socially constructive purpose as well as for entertainment.                                                                                                                                

Public transportation



         The most common form of publik transportation is the bus.it provides transportation service on,  innumerable routes  from the city center to the suburbs. In large cities,subway are mostly found. The subway is an underground system of high- speed trains. subway trains will deliver you to within walking distance of almost any place in the city.They,too,are inexpensive and help solve city traffic problems. But if you are in a hurry or taking along a number of suitcases or packages,you can choose a taxi instead of buses or trains.Using such public transportation is more convenient,but it is more expensive. if you ever visit a major city in another country, you will probably have no trouble getting around.You will quickly find out about crowds on subway trains and probably,about the scarcity of taxi when you are trying to find one during rush hour. like many people, of course, you may come to the conclusion that the most inexpensive, and reliable form of transportation will be your own legs!

Komodo Island




Komodo Island is one of the beautiful and unique islands that you can use as your main destination if you visit Indonesia. Komodo Island is one of the 17,508 islands that make up the Republic of Indonesia. The island has a surface area of 390 km² and over 2000 inhabitants. The inhabitants of the island are descendants of former convicts who were exiled to the island and who have mixed themselves with the Bugis from Sulawesi. The populations are primarily adherents of Islam but there are also Christian and Hindu minorities.
On the island of Komodo, dragon animals live and breed well. Until August 2009,  on this island there are a bout 1,300 dragon’s tail.  Coupled with other islands, such as the island of Rinca and Gili Motang, their numbers totaled about 2500 tails.  There are also approximately 100 individuals’ dragons in Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland island of Flores, but not including the Komodo National Park.

Keris


The widespread tales that the Keris (or kris), a traditional weapon, possesses magical powers that allow it to fly or move by itself inside a cupboard have enthralled many, spurring not only locals but also foreign tourists to purchase these ornate knives when visiting Indonesia. Does a keris have really supernatural power, a life of its own? The answer depends entirely on individual's own perception.

Keris are found in Java, Sumatra, Bali and other islands of the archipelago, and have also been used in the Malay Peninsula, Southern Philippines and Thailand since as long ago as the 13th century. The most ornate ones are made in Java, dating back to the kingdoms of Jenggala, Daha, Kediri, Singasari, Pajajaan, Majapahit, Demak, Pajang, Mataram. Today the keris continues to be made as a home industry in Indonesia, especially in Madura and East Java.

Experts on keris focus on many different aspects of the weapons in order to fully understand them, viewing them from different aspects, such as the historical, cultural, archaeological, anthropological, as well as considering all the legends, mythology and ethnology.

Batik

The Batik Process

The technique of batik is a demanding one. In general, the final design must be conceived before the picture is begun. The batik artist works intimately with color; if he wishes parts of his design to be light yellow, for example, all these parts must be waxed at the same time before any subsequent dyeing. He cannot isolate one part of his design and complete it before moving on to the others as an artist in oils or watercolor may; he must create his design in stages, each of which encompasses the whole picture.
The basic process of batik is simple. It consists of permeating an area of fabric with hot wax so that the wax resists the penetration of dye.
If the cloth we begin with is white, such as bleached cotton, linen, or silk, then wherever we apply hot wax that area will remain white in the final design. After the first waxing the fabric is dipped into a dye bath whose color is the lightest tone of those to be used. When the piece has dried, we see an area of white and an area of cloth that is the color of the first dyeing. Wax is now applied to those parts in which we wish to retain the first color, and the entire fabric is immersed in the second dye bath whose color is darker in tone than the first. This process is repeated until the darkest tone required in the final design has been achieved. When the fabric, now almost wholly waxed, has dried it is placed between sheets of absorbent paper and a hot iron applied. As the sheets of paper absorb the wax they are replaced by fresh sheets until the wax is removed. At this point the final design is seen clearly for the first time.

Materials for Batik

The tools and materials used in batik are simple and readily available.
Any tool that can efficiently transfer hot wax from a container to the fabric will serve to produce a design on cloth when it is dyed. At the simplest level, a lighted candle can be used to distribute drops of melted wax on the fabric. A variety of objects such as bent wire or the rim of a tin can, can be dipped in melted wax and pressed onto the cloth to make a design. However the serious artist uses the brush. The best to use is about a Number Twelve water-color brush. The brush needs to have a large enough tip to retain a good quantity of wax. A larger brush for waxing out large areas of cloth is very useful as is a small brush-a Number Six is about as small as one can use-for delicate work.
The selection of waxes is important to the quality of the finished batik. Paraffin and beeswax are the two waxes most commonly used in batik and are usually combined in different proportions.
Because of its ready availability the best fabric for most batiks is cotton. The weave of the cloth should not be too close, and the fabric should be translucent when held in front of a light. For the best results, the fabric to be waxed should be stretched on a frame in a taut manner to prevent wrinkles which may cause the wax to run in an unpredictable way.
Wax is an inflammable substance, so the wax container should not be placed directly on the source of heat. It should sit in boiling water, and care should be taken to see that the water is replenished as it evaporates.
As with painting, color is an integral part of batik. A painter uses pigment; a batik artist uses dyes. The Painter can, if he chooses, completely obliterate an undesirable color by covering it with another color. Perhaps he must wait until the unwanted color is dry, but there is no doubt about it, he has another chance, he can cover up his mistake.
In batik the correction of mistakes, in most cases, is impossible. The Painter is not limited in any way in the variety of colors he uses and juxtaposes. In batik, however, each color used is significantly changed by the proceeding color; or at least it is certainly affected by the color "underneath". The only pure color is the first one, so all other colors used are mixtures, determined largely by the first color, or the first strong color.

Kawasaki Ninja 250R


One of the most recognizable names in the biking industry, Kawasaki, first came into the industry in 1954 and since that time has made a reputation for itself by manufacturing great quality motor bikes. Kawasaki is well known for its production of powerful racing bikes and has created quite a few successful models for racing purposes. The bikes produced by Kawasaki are preferred by racing enthusiasts as not only they are light but also very powerful and can easily out race other motorbikes. One of the favorite models of Kawasaki bikes was the ZZR-R1100; it proved to be a huge hit during the 1990s and dominated the motorcycle market for quite some years. In the year 2000 Kawasaki came out with its superbike ZX-12R. It became an instant hit; the machine was one of the most powerful ones in its category and was much superior to its competitors. Another popular Kawasaki model is the Ninja. The Kawasaki motorcycles are mostly associated with its popular lime green color. It is the light weight of the bikes along with superior technology, which makes them popular in the market.
In order to capture a greater share of the motorcycle market, Kawasaki also tried their hands in manufacturing cruiser motorbikes. Soon, the Vulcan was added to the lineup. First Generation

  • The first 250cc Ninja was the GPZ-250. It was solely marketed in Japan from 1983 to 1985. This bike had a belt drive system and an air-cooled engine. It had two valves per cylinder, 18-inch wheels and 17 peak horsepower at 8,000 rpm.

Second Generation

  • The second-generation 250cc bike was produced from 1986 and 1987. It was sold in America and Canada as the 250R or the EX250-E, and in Japan as the GPZ-250R. This bike had a water-cooled parallel twin engine with dual carbs and four valves per cylinder. This motorcycle had 37.4 horsepower at 1,000 rpm, a 14,000 rpm red line and a top speed of 95 mph. It had 16-inch wheels and a chain drive.

Third Generation

  • The third-generation model was one of the most popular 250R Ninjas and was produced from 1988 to 2007. This motorcycle had a liquid-cooled, in-line-twin, four-stroke engine with dual-overhead cam and four valves per cylinder. The engine had a bore and stroke of 2.44 by 1.62 inches, a compression ratio of 12.4-1. It had twin Keihin CVK30 constant velocity carburetors and was equipped with a six-speed manual, constant-mesh transmission. The maximum horsepower was 28 at 12,500 rpm, the torque was 18 pound-feet at 10,000 and the top speed was 99 mph. Third-generation bikes had a wheelbase of 55.1 inches, height of 43.1 inches and width of 28 inches. It had a length of 80.1 inches, 16-inch wheels, ground clearance of 6.1 inches and seat height of 29.3 inches. It weighed 304 lbs. dry and 355 lbs. wet.

Fourth Generation

  • The fourth generation, first produced in 2008, is very similar to the third generation with a few minor changes. The fourth generation uses a catalytic converter in the exhaust system with a single muffler. The maximum horsepower is 27 at 12,500 rpm and the top speed went from 99 mph to 96. It also has an 11.6-1 compression ratio and torque of 14 pound-feet at 10,000. The engine's compression and maximum torque have been lowered to provide better midrange performance, where the motorcycle spends most of its time. Other changes include 17-inch wheels, overall length of 85.1 inches, dry weight of 333 lbs. and wet weight of 374.9 lbs.
